Operational Requirements

To deliver the Common Conditions Service, your pharmacy must meet the following requirements:

1. Pharmacist Training

All pharmacists delivering the service must complete the mandatory Common Conditions Service training via the Irish Institute of Pharmacy (IIOP).

  • • PSI-specified training covering all eight conditions
  • • Training records must be maintained for each pharmacist
  • • Locum pharmacists must also complete training

2. Consultation Room

A designated patient consultation area that ensures privacy and confidentiality:

  • • Private, fit-for-purpose space
  • • Wheelchair accessible
  • • Compliant with PSI guidelines on consultation areas

3. Clinical Equipment

Equipment requirements vary by condition (e.g., thermometer, blood pressure monitor). Specific requirements are detailed in each HSE clinical protocol.

4. Professional Indemnity

Ensure your professional indemnity insurance covers pharmacist prescribing under the CCS. Consult with your indemnity provider to confirm adequate coverage.

5. Record Keeping

Service Scope

All pharmacies offering the Common Conditions Service must provide consultations for all eight conditions, as per the Community Pharmacy Agreement 2025:

  • • Allergic Rhinitis & Allergic Conjunctivitis
  • • Uncomplicated Lower Urinary Tract Infection

How to Register

Complete Training

Ensure all pharmacists complete the mandatory CCS training via IIOP.

Notify the HSE

Register your intent to offer the service with the HSE to be listed on the Pharmacy Finder website.

Set Up Your Pharmacy

Ensure your consultation room and equipment meet requirements. Establish SOPs for record-keeping and clinical governance.

Start Offering the Service

Once registered, you can begin offering consultations. Set your own hours and promote the service to your community.
